Teachers
foster a learning environment through exploration,
discovery, and experimentation. The center-based model provides
3 or 4 days per week activity with 3-1/2 hours per day. Parents
receive a minimum of 2 parent/teacher conferences and 3 home
visits from staff per family each school year. During staff home
visits parents are assisted with defining the most appropriate
development goals for their children for both home and preschool
settings. Parents are encouraged to participate in the
classrooms at least twice monthly to enhance the learning
experience.
To
provide greater flexibility in meeting community needs, various service models are used. In a combination
model children have 2-3 days of activity per week with a minimum
of 8 home visits per school year. In the home-based model
children experience weekly home visits and socialization groups twice a
month.
The Lewiston Center also offers a Full-Day/Full-Year option for
families that receive Washington or Idaho child care subsidies.
This option provides all of the same services and classroom
activities as the part-day program only in an extended day
format.
Children
with special needs are integrated into the regular classroom
activities. Special services are provided for these children
individually and in small group settings. |
| Family
Support Services
|
Families
are assisted with information on many resources in the
communities as well as referrals to specific agencies. Crisis
intervention services are also provided as needs arise.
In
the EHS program, expectant parents are offered prenatal and
postpartum support.

Outreach

|
In addition to the many activities and resources
available to participating families, LCECP is engaged in a
comprehensive effort to strengthen communities through numerous
affiliations. Examples of this include participation in the
Twin
County United Way, Lewis-Clark
Interagency Council, Coalition for Children and Families, Valley
Childhood Project, Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, and various
community events throughout the region. LCECP also serves
as an advocate for early childhood education through state,
regional, and national associations.
LCECP enjoys an enduring
legacy of past and present board members and community
volunteers. These individuals represent a unique collection of
relationships and contributions, which have reinforced the LCECP
mission to serve a regional community.

| Childcare
Partnership

|
In an effort to meet the changing needs of the
families we serve, we have collaborated with designated
childcare providers. As a result, we will bring Head Start
services into these childcare centers. This will reduce the
number of transitions for children, enhance the quality of
childcare services by combining resources and more effectively
provide quality services to families and the communities.
