Legislative News
Lewis-Clark Early Childhood Program relies heavily on funding from the Federal Government and from the states of Washington and Idaho to provide the services we offer. In addition to authorizing funding, these legislative bodies define in detail the services we offer, including the eligibility criteria, the goals and objectives for each family/child, the number of families/children served, and the amount of funding per individual served.
The future and direction of our organization and the services we provide is directly related to and impacted by the decisions of our elected officials, particularly those at the state and national levels. Our funding, and at times our very existence, is frequently questioned and debated by the representatives we elect to office, who may sometimes have limited awareness of our services or the benefits our services bring to our communities.
Historically we have enjoyed support from many different segments of our community that do have an in-depth understanding and appreciation of the benefits early childhood programs bring to their communities. It is from this support and advocacy that we have persevered and grown over the past 45 years.
This section of our site will post information and links to information intended to inform the visitor about current issues facing our program and similar early childhood programs across the country. Additionally it will contain information and links to sites with related information about issues affecting at-risk families.
